For · Indian Freelancers

An invoice app for Indian freelancers.

Designer, developer, writer, consultant, photographer - whether you're billing a Bangalore startup in INR or an Upwork client in USD, VioBusiness sends professional invoices on your phone in seconds. No ads. No tier upsells. ₹999 once, lifetime.

What Indian freelancers actually need. GST tax invoices for domestic clients. Multi-currency for international ones. HSN/SAC code support. No ads. Records on your phone, not on someone's server. ₹999 once.

i.The Indian freelancer reality

Most Indian freelancers we've spoken to are juggling at least two billing scenarios:

  1. Domestic clients in INR - Indian companies, startups, agencies. Need a GST-compliant tax invoice with CGST + SGST (intra-state) or IGST (inter-state), GSTIN, HSN/SAC code.
  2. International clients in USD/GBP/EUR - Upwork, Fiverr, Toptal, direct foreign clients. Often invoiced under LUT (Letter of Undertaking) at 0% GST as export of services.

Some apps handle one well and the other badly. Vyapar is great for domestic but limited on multi-currency. Tally is comprehensive but desktop-first and not designed for ₹999 budgets. Zoho Books is solid but cloud-locked with subscription tiers.

VioBusiness handles both natively: per-invoice currency selection, GST handling that adapts to intra-state/inter-state/export, and a single ₹999 lifetime price.

ii.What you get

iii.The Upwork / Fiverr / international workflow

If you're earning foreign currency, the typical setup:

  1. Apply for LUT at the start of each financial year via the GST portal (so you can invoice exports at 0% without paying IGST and claiming refund later).
  2. Create the international client in VioBusiness as a customer (name + country; their GSTIN isn't applicable).
  3. Issue the invoice in their currency (USD/GBP/EUR). Set GST to 0%. Add "Exports under LUT - LUT ARN: XXXX-XX-XXXX" in notes.
  4. Send the PDF to the client (Upwork/direct/email).
  5. When payment arrives in INR via your bank or Wise, the bank generates a FIRC/e-FIRA. Keep this with the invoice as evidence under FEMA.
  6. At GST return time, report the export sales under zero-rated supply.

VioBusiness's CSV export gives you the data; your CA handles the actual GSTR-1 / GSTR-3B filings.

v.Frequently asked

Do I need to register for GST as a freelancer?
If your aggregate turnover (including export of services) is below ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh in special-category states), GST registration is optional. Above that, mandatory. Some marketplaces (Amazon, Flipkart) require GSTIN regardless. See our GST guide.
How does VioBusiness compare to Vyapar?
Vyapar is feature-rich (POS, inventory, party ledger) but ad-supported on free tier with aggressive paid upsells. VioBusiness is cleaner, focused on professional invoicing for service businesses, no ads, single ₹999 lifetime payment. See our Vyapar alternative page.
What SAC code should I use?
For IT services: 998313 (consulting) or 998314 (design/development). For design: 998391. For photography: 998722. For consulting: 998311. See our SAC code reference.
Can I file GSTR-1 directly from the app?
Not directly. VioBusiness exports CSV; your CA imports into their filing software (ClearTax, Tally, or directly into the GST portal). Most freelancers handle GST returns monthly with a CA at ~₹500-1500/month.
