An invoice app for Canadian sole proprietors.
Self-employed in Canada, whether Small Supplier or GST-registered, with Canadian clients in INR-mixed provinces or US clients paying in USD. VioBusiness handles GST/HST/QST per invoice, supports multi-currency natively, and gives you a clean CRA-ready CSV at year-end. CAD $25.99 once.
i.What you get
- Per-province tax handling. Set HST 13% for Ontario, 15% for Atlantic provinces, 5% GST for Alberta - per invoice, based on the customer's province.
- PST/QST workflow. For BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, or Quebec - set GST as the primary invoice tax, add PST/QST as a separate line item. See our GST/HST guide and QST guide.
- Multi-currency. Bill US clients in USD - very common for Canadian freelancers. Records keep the original currency.
- Zero-rated for US/international. Exports of services to non-residents are typically zero-rated; set GST to 0% per invoice.
- Recurring invoices. Monthly retainers automate themselves.
- Expense tracking with receipt photos. Required for input tax credit claims when GST-registered.
- Quote-to-invoice conversion. One tap.
- CSV export. For your bookkeeper, accountant, or your own NETFILE preparation.
ii.Small Supplier vs registered - both work
Small Supplier (under CAD $30,000/year)
You don't have to register for GST/HST. Set the tax rate to 0% on each invoice. No need for a GST/HST number on invoices. The CRA still expects clean income records - VioBusiness gives you that via CSV export at year-end.
GST/HST registrant
Set your GST/HST number in the Business Profile. Set the tax rate per invoice based on the customer's province. For US/international customers, set 0% (zero-rated export). For PST/QST provinces, handle the second tax as a separate line item.
iii.Cross-border with US clients
A common Canadian freelance pattern: 50-70% of revenue from US clients in USD. VioBusiness handles this cleanly:
- Set USD as the currency on each US-client invoice
- Set GST/HST to 0% (zero-rated export to non-resident)
- The PDF renders in USD
- Records keep USD totals; you convert to CAD for income tax reporting at the appropriate exchange rate (annual average or transaction-level)
See our multi-currency guide for the full mechanics.
iv.Pricing
Unlimited invoices, quotes, contracts, expenses, customers. All future updates.
